This is terminology for the credit card world where the card holders can borrow actual cash against their current balances. Cash advance can be sought as easily as drawing money from the neighborhood ATM. Many of the electronic banking machines offer to the credit card users the opportunity for cash advance. This is if the amount that is requested does not exceed the cash advance limit of the account holder.

Even if the demand for money exceeds the cash advance limit then the machine will give the currency but will electronically flag the transaction. This transaction will be handled in similar manner like overdrawing on your credit limit.

Although in the present world cash has been replaced by debit and credit cards but there can still be some transactions that require only cash. Taking a personal loan for a small amount can prove to be very expensive. Also drawing from an ATM or through a debit card will get you only what is there in your savings but taking a cash advance is the best option in needs of urgent money.

However, even drawing a cash advance may also prove to be expensive so all other options should be explored before you take a cash advance. This is because whatever you draw as a cash advance will be added to the money that you owe to the bank and will include interest fee etc. The interest rates for such transactions can be very high and thus all benefits of the cash advance vanish. So whatever is borrowed should be the immediate requirement and should be paid back quickly.
